The Pro Guide to Bridal Hair Prep

The Pro Guide to Bridal Hair Prep

Your wedding day hair doesn’t start the morning of.

It’s made in the weeks and months leading up to the big day. The quiet rituals, weekly masks, scalp scrubs, the decision to start now, rather than later.

In four decades of bridal work for some of the world’s most photographed royal and celebrity weddings, our founder Wendy Iles has seen it all, and one thing has never changed. The brides happiest with their hair started prepping weeks before.

Wendy Iles has spent four decades behind the hair of the world's most photographed brides. Her secret? The ritual starts weeks before the dress goes on. Here's the complete bridal hair prep guide — from your first masque to the morning of.

6 WEEKS OUT (OR MORE): Decide on your look.

The most important step and one some brides still skip. Before you touch a product, before you book a trial, go to your stylist with a Pinterest board. Not a vague idea, a real visual of what you like. Tear pages from magazines. Screenshot editorials. Create a mood board and bring it to the appointment. Your hairdresser cannot read your mind, but they can execute a vision. So give them one.

Because your hair on the big wedding day is not the time to try something new.

4 WEEKS BEFORE: Start masking regularly.

If you do nothing else, do this. Begin weekly masking with the Iles Formula Hair Mask 4-6 weeks before your wedding, and your hair will be in the best condition of its life by the time you walk down the aisle.

Begin to apply generously from mid-length to ends, leave for 10–20 minutes, then rinse. The more consistently you do this, the more the results compound.

The Iles Formula Nurture Pack, which includes our Shampoo, Mask, and Conditioner, is the complete bridal prep system. Start it now.

2 WEEKS BEFORE: Commit to your rituals.

By now, your hair should already begin to feel and behave differently. Continue the weekly mask. Wash with the shampoo, condition, finish with the Iles Formula Finishing Serum every time you style. Let the products do the work. Remember: this is not the moment to introduce anything new – stay the course.

THE BIG DAY: Trust the process.

You’ve done the work. You have your look confirmed, your stylist briefed, your hair in the best condition it’s ever been in. The morning of your wedding is not the moment for decisions – it’s the moment to arrive, hand over, and trust.

The hair of your life was built in the weeks before this moment. It’s already there.
