Best Techniques for Smoothing Out and Removing Glitter *updated 1/30/24*
Noodles Nail Polish is all about the glitter, all the time. While we all love the bling, it can be a pain to remove. Oh, and it can be known to eat topcoat which leaves texture on the nail after it dries. If you are especially sensitive to feeling your polish, make sure your topcoat is a thick one, or apply a second coat of a thinner one.
Instead of applying 2 coats of thick topcoat, several indie brands have come out with a product that you use after your last coat of polish and before your topcoat. These are generally thick and “fill in” the gaps left from the glitter. Here are several products I use and recommend (in no particular order):
6. Smooth and Shine Duo from Esmaltes da Kelly (available through Polish Pickup some months)
To use these glitter grabbing topcoats, it’s best to let the polish to dry for several minutes before applying. If you apply the glitter grabber too quickly, the nail polish can eat up the glitter grabber a little, making the polish continue to have a little texture, even after the addition of a quick-dry topcoat. Using it this way requires a little more patience, but it’s totally worth it.
Thumb/Pointer/Middle fingers: 2 coats Zoya Jordan under 1 coat of Noodles Nail Polish Hearts and Kisses
Ring/Little Finger: 3 coats of Hearts and Kisses
I’m gonna be honest, this trio is just full of fun shaped glitters. If you love stars, moons, or hearts, this trio is for you. Up first we have Hearts and Kisses which is a clear-based glitter topper with white matte hearts and glitters, holo flakes, scattered holo, and a mix of fuchsia/raspberry/pink holo glitters. Sometimes larger glitter pieces like the hearts are difficult to fish out of the bottle, but this one is full of them, so no fishing required. That said, I still recommend flipping the bottle over for a few minutes before applying the polish. You can build this one up with 3 coats, but I think I like it better as a topper. It does dry with texture, so bust out that glitter smoothing topcoat to get that glass-like finish.
Next up we have How Sweet It Is which is the only crelly of the set. It’s an orchid crelly base with matte white/magenta glitter, and metallic and holo fuchsia glitters. The base is a bit sheer, but it’s so full of glitter that I still only needed 2 coats to build it up. This one is quintessential Valentine’s Day. Again, it dries with lots of texture, so you’ll either need that glitter-smoothing topcoat, or 2 coats of a thicker topcoat to smooth it out. I also recommend that you wait several minutes for the polish to dry before using either topcoat so it doesn’t get “eaten” by the polish if that makes sense.
Thumb/Pointer/Middle fingers: 2 coats Morgan Taylor Little Black Dress under 1 coat of Noodles Nail Polish To the Moon and Back
Ring/Little Finger: 3 coats of To the Moon and Back
Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got To the Moon and Back which I think is my top pick from the collection. I love star, moon, and heart glitters! I can’t help it! This one is a clear-based glitter topper with silver moon/silver mini hearts/gold mini stars and glitters in silver/gold/violet/fuchsia holo and metallic finishes. This one is choke full of glitter, so don’t feel like you’ll need to go fishing like I talked about above. If you’re a fan of polishes with shapes, you must get this one. You can build this one up in 3 coats, but again, I think I like it better as a topper. Love it!
