DIY Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Body Gel

I’m on a hyaluronic acid roll. It’s an amazing ingredient that is easy to work with, super affordable and might be the missing puzzle piece in supporting your skin properly. Let’s make a hydrating hyaluronic acid body gel and get your skin in tip top shape!!
I decided it was time to “try” to make a video on how to make hyaluronic acid. It’s such an easy product to make but I find it’s a little hard to explain. While making this video, I ended up with about 16 ounces of hyaluronic acid because I kept having to remake the video. I HATE to waste products so I decided to put all of it in a pump bottle and use it like I would a body oil or lotion.
I have pretty dry lower legs and I’ve found nothing that seems to really fix that so I thought maybe hyaluronic acid would help. It certainly wouldn’t hurt. I’m excited to report that it has helped! I typically put a layer of HA serum all over after the shower now. Sometimes I add my usual body oil on top but not every time. Within a week of using it maybe twice I noticed a difference in my legs. It dawned on me how affordable and easy it is to make enough hyaluronic acid serum for a body product. This may seem obvious to you but it was a light bulb moment for me so I wanted to share! Plus, I’ve got a video to help you easily make your own!
Why Put Hyaluronic Acid On Your Body?
Hyaluronic acid attracts water to the skin and traps water in the skin. It can hold up to 1,000 times it’s weight of water! It is an incredible tool to hydrate the skin. However, an HA serum can only hydrate the skin. Moisturizing is a different ball game. That’s why it’s incredibly effective to use a hyaluronic acid serum and follow it up with an oil based moisturizer like a lotion or even better, a body oil.
Using hyaluronic acid can improve the appearance of your skin as well as support collagen production. Hyaluronic acid plumps the skin and gives the appearance of more youthful skin. What I personally notice is it removes that ashy, dull look my skin gets. Hyaluronic acid also promotes tissue repair and when taking internally can ease joint pain.
Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Body Gel Recipe:
This recipe is for 8 ounces. I recommend using a glass 8 ounce pump bottle.
Directions:
- Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of hyaluronic acid powder over the top of 1 cup of distilled water.
- Place in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
- Remove from the fridge and add 2 teaspoons of leucidal liquid. A preservative is 100% necessary. I learned this the hard way and found mold in my month old refrigerated serum.
- Add any additives you’ve chosen. See below… (optional)
- Pour Hyaluronic Acid into an 8 ounce pump bottle.
HA Body Gel Additives:
I am using a simple hyaluronic acid serum with no extras added to it, but there are a few boosters you may want to look into adding to help with soothing skin conditions, fading hyperpigmentation and even firming the skin!
Actigym is an additive from Lotioncrafter that helps firm the skin. You can add 5% to your product. 5% of 8 ounces is .4 ounces which is 2.5 teaspoons. I will be using actigym in a neck serum very soon.
Licorice Root is an herbal extract shown to lighten pigmentation. You can add 2-5% in a product. So, add 2.5 teaspoons to 8 ounces for a 5% formulation.
Essential oils can help calm and soothe skin issues such as eczema and psoriasis. They also make your gel smell amazing! I always recommend lavender. If your legs will see the sun you may want to avoid citrus oils incase of photosensitivity. Sometimes I add carrot seed to my body products in the summer to help support my skin while being in the sun. I also like geranium essential oil. I would use 10-20 drops of essential oil per 8 ounces for a body product.
I hope I’ve convinced you to make a large batch of hyaluronic acid serum for your body! It really is so quick and easy (except for the 12-24 hour refrigeration part) and your HA powder will give you quite a few batches of body gel or any other HA product!
