Let’s make a DIY lip balm that will not only moisturize and protect your lips but also address vertical lip lines and loss of volume!! And did I mention is an easy, straight forward recipe? This recipe is the ultimate DIY anti aging lip serum that is a must have for achieving plump, youthful lips! Forget expensive over the counter lip treatments that are full of filler ingredients that are unnatural! We can make a far superior product at home!

The Ultimate DIY Anti Aging Lip Serum Recipe

Quite a few recipes ago I introduced Hilurlip, a lip smoothing ingredient that really blurred my vertical lip lines. I even sold a lip balm with hilurlip but found it was hard to work with since applying heat to it will diminish its anti aging properties. I recently noticed I had developed more lines and aging around my mouth so I decided to give it another try and realized it’s not as difficult as I thought. Plus, I found another anti aging lip ingredient to help with plumpness that could be added to a lip balm base. What could be better than 2 powerful anti aging lip ingredients in one product?!

Hilurlip and Linefill are both oil soluble so they are the perfect additives to a homemade lip balm. They are relatively easy to add in and while my results are subtle, I included my before and after. I haven’t been using this DIY long but I am already seeing diminished wrinkles around my mouth.

*To be transparent, I think my makeup base was covering the top part of my upper lip in the before picture. I’m not really sure how much the product has enhanced my upper lip because of that. I do think it has blurred some vertical lines and my lips appear slightly plumper as well.

DIY Lip Serum Ingredients:

Sweet almond oil is the perfect light yet ultra moisturizing oil for any DIY. It is high in vitamins A and E.

Kokum butter helps with cell regeneration, is a powerful antioxidant and is highly rejuvenating due to its high content of fatty acids. It’s also non comedogenic which is good if you plan to apply this serum around the mouth as well as the lips. You may remember using kokum butter in my Firming Eye Cream recipe.

Vitamin E can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with regular use. It can boost skin’s elasticity by supporting and encouraging collagen production. It also can reduce oxidative stress that can cause skin to appear dull. Vitamin E also helps prolong the shelf life a DIY products.

Beeswax is used to thicken up the ingredients making them into a balm. Beeswax will help the staying power of this lip balm as well as form a protective barrier to keep moisture and other ingredients in the skin.

What is Linefill?

Linefill stimulates the body’s natural mechanisms to increase the number and size of adipocytes thereby providing more volume to areas that have lost their shape over the years.  Linefill fills all kinds of wrinkles, plumps lips and improves the overall skin condition for a rejuvenated appearance.

  • Reduces the visible effects of aging: wrinkles and loss of facial volume

  • Restores facial contours for a overall improved appearance

  • Plumps lips for a youthful appearance

  • Improves skin hydration

  • Smooths skin texture and blurs blemishes

Linefill should be used at 1-3% in oil based formulations.

What is Hilurlip?

Hilurlip® redefines, plumps and minimizes fine vertical lines of the lips. Small particles of Sodium Hyaluronate are processed to enhance penetration and efficacy, producing a long-term volume boosting effect on the lips and an anti-aging action on the thin tissue. It also acts against the effects of outside pollution.

Hilurlip® is a new way of transporting of Hyaluronic acid, especially for lip boosting products. It is an oil suspension containing particles of Sodium Hyaluronate, submitted to a technological process after which the particle size is reduced and homogenized to enhance penetration and efficacy. The small particles of Hyaluronan contained in Hilurlip™ swell when they are in contact with skin water, producing a long-term boosting effect on the lips.

Hilurlip® also contains the tripeptide GHK, a well-known RCS scavenger, which protects the lips against the harmful effects of sun exposure. GHK is able to inhibit glycation therefore preventing the loss of collagen elasticity, and to protect skin cells from photodamage.

  • Increases lip volume, producing a long-term plumping effect on the lips.

  • Enhances moisturization of lip skin.

  • Protects lips’ skin from environmental aggression like sun exposure and cigarette smoke, preventing premature aging of the lips.

  • The oily basis of Hilurlip™ helps to lubricate the lips.

Hilurlip should be used at 1-3% in oil based formulations.

DIY Anti Aging Lip Treatment Recipe:

How to Make:

  1. Fill a medium pot half way full with water and place a Pyrex glass measuring cup in the water.
  2. Place on stove top at medium heat and add beeswax, kokum butter and sweet almond oil.
  3. Allow the butter and beeswax to melt and mix with the almond oil.
  4. Once melted, remove from heat and pour into a glass jar.
  5. Allow to cool for around 5-10 minutes then add in vitamin E, hilurlip and linefill.
  6. You may have to vigorously stir if your balm has already hardened.

How to Use:

I personally keep this lip balm by my bed and apply generously every night before bed. However, you can use it as a moisturizer for not just your lips but also the skin around your lips. I apply a thick layer to my lips but also recommend you apply a thinner layer to the skin around your mouth for added anti aging benefits. This balm can be use morning and night if desired.

I will keep remaking this particular lip serum recipe and I plan to use it all around my mouth as well. I’m encouraged with the before and after pics and you really can’t beat how easy and affordable this lip balm is to make.

xx, Jenni
