As Emily Attwood, founder of Scooms, explains, “Egyptian cotton is only authentically Egyptian if it comes from the plant Gossypium Barbadense, is grown in Egypt and is certified Egyptian cotton. It’s the climate in Egypt that enables the longer staples or fibres to grow, which can then be spun into extra-fine threads.” Those fibres are also hand-picked, “which puts less stress on the fibres so they remain straight and intact, as well as being stronger and more resistant to stress”, Emily explains.
